We recently celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Polish Scholarships to British Independent Schools. In the words of Cameron Pyke, the Deputy Master of Dulwich College, a few characteristics of the Polish Scholars:
"First is their intellectual ambition that they embrace the holistic education in an interdisciplinary way as they are involved in many societies...They have shown the willingness to take few intellectual risks. They are always good company; they have shown great humanity, humour and good manners. They are proud of their country but also they are willing to embrace other intellectual traditions, to be citizens of the world as well as good citizens of #Poland. Perhaps particularly, phrases used in the context of passing Her Majesty the Queen recently, one should highlight their service leadership in the community service, boarding houses and beyond......"
This occasion marks the long standing legacy of the scholarships selected by UWC Polska (Towarzystwo Szkół Zjednoczonego Świata) as well the incredible generosity of the participating schools in the UK, which provided scholarships over the years. The likes of Dulwich College, Clifton College, Downside School, Chigwell School, Rugby School, Worth School, Cheltenham Ladies' College and many others.
In 2000, I was lucky enough to be selected to complete my Sixth Form at The Royal School, the experience that has transform my life and make me the person I am today. Big thanks to Mark Heywood, the Principal of the Royal School, who attended our celebration (as well as Gareth Parker-Jones, James Hills, Emma Kenyon, Simon Coppell and Damian King) kindly hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London with a keynote speech given by Her Excellency Agnieszka Kowalska.
This was a brilliant moment for many Alumni to get together, from our very first scholar Maciej Dworniak from the total of 325 scholars over last 30 years including the organising committee Dominika Kampaa, Julia Cebula, Marcin Szala and Aleksandra Calicka and ±100 others.
Big thanks to Aleksandra Wittchen and Dawid Kasprzak for their incredible performances making this evening so memorable!
